Jason Sinay is a Los Angeles-based guitarist, singer, and songwriter whose decades-long career has seen him collaborate with some of music’s most legendary artists. Best known for his long-standing role in the Dirty Knobs, the rock band led by Mike Campbell of Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, Sinay has also performed and recorded with icons such as Keith Richards, Neil Young, Bob Weir, Jerry Lee Lewis, Jackson Browne, Lucinda Williams, Jeff Lynne, Joe Bonamassa, Ivan Neville, and many more.

Sinay’s passion for music took root at the age of nine, sparked by a childhood trip to see Led Zeppelin that cemented his dream to “be just like Jimmy Page.” Growing up as the youngest of five siblings, he was immersed in a diverse range of musical influences—from Queen to Supertramp to Neil Young—while honing his craft under the mentorship of jazz guitarist Buddy Matlock. By 12, he was playing his first electric guitar, a ’71 Telecaster, laying the foundation for a lifelong musical journey.

Beyond performing, Sinay is deeply committed to giving back. Recognizing the transformative power of quality instruments, he feels a strong responsibility to support musicians who lack access to them. “Being that I am fortunate enough to be able to afford the collection of instruments I currently have, it is not lost on me that I am very, very blessed. I was able to attend music school as a young student and I always had a good guitar to work with. This is not the case for most. I feel that it’s my responsibility to give back to those less fortunate in any way I can—especially those ultra-talented artists that can make such good use of quality instruments.”

He continues, “The importance of this is beyond the scope of my words. It’s so important and vital that I can barely convey my passion in this area. A world-class instrument in the hands of a good musician can change lives instantly. It’s a direct and undeniable connection that happens. These instruments bring out of us musicians pure inspiration that is transferred directly to the souls of the audience. It really and truly makes all the difference in the world.”

Driven by this belief, Sinay is passionate about creating opportunities for the next generation of artists. He credits his success to the support of mentors, family, and fellow musicians, and his commitment to giving back extends beyond his own playing. Joining the board of the Grateful Guitars Foundation allows him to merge his love for music with his dedication to philanthropy, ensuring the jam band tradition continues to thrive. “I see myself as a worker among workers who is willing to contribute my time and energy to the greater cause. I understand the value of these instruments—they are part of my daily life. I live and breathe them. I also have a lot of experience in the philanthropic world. I feel that I can benefit the cause with knowing some of the ins and outs of the 501(c)(3) world,” says Sinay.

Grateful Guitars Foundation founder Andy Logan shares his enthusiasm: “We are ecstatic that Jason Sinay has joined the Grateful Guitars Foundation board. His professional music background alone provides much-needed industry knowledge to our team. In addition to being a pro player, Jason is also a guitar collector, and most importantly, he is an awesome human being dedicated to making the world a better place. He is inspired to take our musical instruction support to the next level. We are so grateful to welcome Jason Sinay to our GGF family.”

For Sinay, supporting music education is just as vital as providing instruments. “Music education has been and still is integral to my life as a musician. I still work with guitar instructors to this day. There is never a point that I feel I ‘have’ it. There is always room for growth. Music programs in schools are dying off, and many that remain are underfunded and poorly staffed. I’d like to be a part of changing that trend. One music teacher can change the direction of a child’s life. It happened that way for me.”
