Grateful Guitars Foundation is proud to share “Red-Tailed Hawk,” a gift from the Foundation to guitarist Lonn Calanca.

Luthier Greg DeLuis describes this particularly meaningful build, “This guitar is a symbolism of Life is Fleeting/Love is Eternal. I represented this by the Omega body carving and the Ouroboros inlaid with Lon’s late wife’s ashes at the 12th fret.
The other inlaid symbols start with the red-tailed hawk in mother of pearl at the first fret, the rest of the inlays are mammoth ivory and brass and are the seven Sanskrit Chakra symbols and a ringed planet representing the universe at large.
This was a very emotional build for me as a Luthier due to the gravity of working with the ashes. My goal was to not only gift Lonn a guitar he would love, but also one he would cherish in a divine way. It was an honor making this guitar for Lonn and GGF.”
